~Getting Organized With My Shopping~

I have admitted that organization and being organized is not one of my best qualities.  I'm pretty much a spur of the moment, fly by the seat of my pants type person and it really shows when I go shopping,  Whether while I'm shopping or after it's all said and done.  I've forgotten my shopping list, coupons, gift cards, receipts for returned items, etc.  OR my purse ends up looking like a trash can with shopping lists, snippets of shopping lists and receipts that I really need to keep and end up slipping in my purse in hopes of retrieving them later.

So....I've decided to try to become more organized in that area.  I need something that has a place for everything and everything will be in its place....hopefully.  At least it's a start and they say you CAN teach an old dog new tricks.  Right?

This is it!  Some time ago, I came across a pattern for a notepad cover from The Cottage Mama and knew this was what I needed.

I did a little bit of revamping making something practical and functional into something pretty and fun to carry around and use.

See?  A place for everything and everything in its place!  Different sized pockets for my receipts, coupons and gift cards that can be stored on one side...

and a removable notepad for my shopping list and/or notations for different stops on the other side!  There's also another pocket under the notepad that can be used for more storage.

I even included a tag from my Etsy store name on the back!!

So here you have it!  A tool to help my shopping excursions to be a bit more organized.  I loved how it turned out and guess what?  Pssst....I'll let you in on a little secret.  I'm going to get busy making several more of these babies...

 Maybe using fabric like this....

 and like this....

 and like this....

 and like this...

 and like this....

 and like this.....

and maybe some like this!!

And you know why??  Because I am going to have my first giveaway!!  Yep, I am so blown away by all of you who choose to follow my blog and by the wonderful friendships that have developed as a result, that I am going to make up several of these fabric-covered organizers and give one away to one of my dear blogging friends!  So, just for conversation sake, not knowing the look of the finished product, which fabric combination would you be most likely to choose?  I'd be curious to know.

Well, I've got to get busy at the ol' sewing machine as I hope to have the giveaway ready by the first part of next week.  Keep your eyes and ears open.  You'll be the first to know, I promise. ;)

Love ya!!

We have another thing in common! Organization, or lack there of. I have been dedicating places and spaces for things and do better but, still need more consistency. You have a great ability for blending fabrics. I think I like the selection with the brown and white checks best.

You are so clever. I have something similar to this pattern sitting on my desk now. It is a to do. I love it. Course I am an over organizer which leads to less production. I could spend a whole day rearranging and never get anything done. Love all those bright colors. This is a keeper for sure. You did a beautiful job..smiles...Renee

You are my sister from another mother. Your purse looks the same as mine. We could be twins. I will entering this giveaway for sure. My Husband would also stop nagging me to clean up my purse. If I won this!!!

I love organization, but I am afraid all of my receipts go into the same file, so if I have to find one, it's usually there, but a pain to find it.

I love the fourth choice of fabrics but then I love anything with roses. What a great idea!! I need one to use when I go thrifting so I can remember what I saw and where. I follow your blog by email and so enjoy it. Take care. Melody ;0>

Oh my! What a lovely way to "attempt" to be organized. For me it would definitely be a much needed tool. My husband says that I could take an organized person and ruin them in a couple of days! :-) I would have to say that "anything red" is always my choice... so the strawberry and the cherry prints both caught my eye. Am sure your finished project will be lovely whatever fabric combination you choose. Happy Sewing!

From one "Velma" to another! Yes, you share my first name... even though I've always gone by Susan.

Currently, I just dump everything in my purse, then go digging when the time comes. Kind of embarrassing to yank out things others do not need to see, which I have done before. I like the strawberry or cherry fabrics. I have a pattern similar to yours, but have been too lazy to sew, so one of these would be great for me.....or appreciated by anyone.

Have a great weekend Velma!

Hi Velma,
The combinations are all beautiful! I love them all, but my favorite is the second one down. The beige and pinks together get my vote.
I am looking forward to this giveaway, maybe it could get me organized, too. I thought you were describing me when you were describing the trip and the purse! AAAA! Sometimes that's how I feel. I do not like disorganization in any way in any place, but I can be so badly disorganized!

Those are so cute and practical.
I like the fist three combos.

Watch your gift cards that the magnetic strips don't deactivate each other. I always lay mine opposite of each other.

It turned out adorable. If I had to pick a favorite it would be the second to last with that dreamy yellow. What a cute project! Is it helping? Patty

What a great idea! I'm in love with the combo that starts with the yellow background floral, and moves on to light blue and red!

Can't wait to see how this works for ya! I left my shopping list at home just this morning - managed to get about half of what was on it, but I'll be going back later in the week. :(
Oh - and I like the fabric in the second picture. :)
